Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why does my country show a low radar count, or no coverage at all?

Radar count reflects publicly accessible Doppler weather radars from official meteorological agencies in each country. Some regions have few radars due to geography, budget, or limited public data publication. Coverage continues to improve as more agencies open their data feeds.

  • How is the number of radars in each country calculated for this coverage page?

We count every active Doppler radar station whose data Rain Viewer currently displays on the map for that country. Stations that exist but don't publish public real-time data aren't included. The number updates automatically whenever a station is added or retired.

  • Is Rain Viewer's coverage equally accurate in rural areas and remote regions?

Coverage quality drops as you move away from radar stations because Doppler radar beams curve and lose resolution at distance. Densely radar-equipped regions like the U.S. and Western Europe have near-uniform coverage; remote mountainous or oceanic areas may show gaps even when the country is listed.

  • Will Rain Viewer add new countries or radars to this coverage list over time?

Yes — we continuously integrate new radar networks as official agencies open their data or as we negotiate access. If your region isn't covered today, follow our blog or check back periodically. Suggesting underserved regions to our team also helps prioritize the roadmap.

  • Why does my Rain Viewer map show radar data for a country marked as uncovered?

Border areas often receive radar coverage from neighboring countries even when their own national network isn't yet integrated. The coverage list reflects countries with their own dedicated radar feed, not areas reachable by overlapping signals from beyond their borders.

  • Does Rain Viewer cover everything visible on the radar map, including ocean and Arctic regions?

Rain Viewer shows everything its source radars can detect, including precipitation over coastal oceans and lakes where ground-based stations have line of sight. Open ocean and high-latitude polar regions usually lack ground radar entirely and are not covered.
