Our app has always required some background activity to properly update the weather information and your current location. The “Last location update” notification is a visible indicator of our background activity. It appears after you grant our app long-term access to your location and then enable the Location Update Notification option in settings. You can disable this option at any time in the app settings. However, please note that the app will not be able to update your location in the background when this option is turned off. It is acceptable to turn it off on days when you remain in the same location. However, this option helps us obtain more accurate data about your location (and therefore the weather in your area) when you change your location throughout the day.

Rain Viewer is designed to process weather data. Unfortunately, we cannot influence cartographic data as we use the default maps provided by the device’s OS. However, if you are unable to find the location by its name, you can save it by long-pressing on the map in the desired area.
Unfortunately not, sorry. Please kindly note that it is not possible to transfer purchases and subscriptions between different stores (e.g., App Store and Google Play).
If your subscription hasn’t been reactivated automatically after some actions, please try to restore it manually. Follow these steps: Settings - Rain Viewer Premium - Show all Premium Features, and then tap Restore Purchase at the bottom of the screen. If you have an Android device, just wait a moment: Rain Viewer checks your purchases automatically when you visit this screen. If nothing happens, check whether your device’s main account matches the one you previously made a purchase with. Please note that you cannot transfer purchases and subscriptions between the App Store and Google Play.
Despite utilising weather radar data, we do not own these radars, so unfortunately we cannot influence their operation. With this in mind, we are only able to collect data from the specified radars, not generate it. You can check whether a radar in your area is functioning correctly today via Menu - Single Radar mode (tap the radar for more information). If you believe our app displays incorrect information about the radar’s current status, please email us with a trusted source of information for analysis. Thank you.
The app is probably fine. It appears that the weather radar in your area is delivering incomplete data. In most cases, this is a temporary situation. The main goal of Rain Viewer is to collect and process weather radar data in over 80 countries. However, we do not own these radars and have no control over their operation. As such, we can only collect data from the specified radars, not generate it. If you believe our app is displaying incorrect information about the radar’s current status, please email us with a trusted source of information for analysis.
For Android:
Please try the Clear Data option (Device settings - Apps - Rain Viewer - Storage - Clear data), then delete the app and install the latest version from the store.
For iOS:
Please try deleting the app and installing the latest version from the store.
Please ensure that you have granted our app permission to send notifications to your device and that the app is allowed to update the device’s location information. Also, please make sure that notifications are enabled for the desired location (app settings) and that the weather radar in your area is currently online (app settings, Single radar mode, tap the radar for more information).
Please try adjusting the intensity of precipitation to be displayed (app settings – Radar Overlay – Minimal Precipitation Intensity – the Full Range option).
Rain Viewer collects and processes data from weather radars in over 80 countries. These radars are not owned by us, so we cannot influence their number or how well they operate. Not all areas are covered by weather radars. To begin using Rain Viewer, please check whether your region is covered by a radar by going to Settings - Radar Overlay - Coverage. The grey areas on the map layer indicate regions not covered by weather radars. Therefore, Rain Viewer cannot provide accurate radar precipitation information for these locations. We can only offer the long-term forecast (24 hrs/7 days) for such areas. If the radar map covers your current location, please ensure that the radar in your area is functioning normally today (Menu - Single Radar mode - tap the radar for more information).
To function correctly, Rain Viewer requires at least Internet access. Rain Viewer operates by collecting and processing data from weather radars in your area. The app should periodically check your location and request radar data for that specific location. Rain Viewer can operate without GPS, but it will not display your location.
Weather radars provide past and current information about the movement of precipitation. This is actual information based on direct sky scanning. Radars typically detect moderate to heavy precipitation with high accuracy, although they may sometimes have limitations in detecting light rain or drizzle. Radar data also enables you to build a short-term (up to 90 mins) accurate precipitation trajectory. A weather forecast is an algorithm that predicts further long-term precipitation movement. Forecasts are based on mathematical models and may not always be accurate for the next hour.
The radar layer can display more details than the satellite layer. Radars can even detect small storm cells, while satellites observe precipitation globally across the Earth. Additionally, radar animation is of higher quality than satellite animation.
The data for the snow layer comes from a source other than weather radars. Specifically, it is derived from the temperature map, which uses its own database and algorithms. This is why the snow layer is not visible in Single radar mode. However, it is available in the general animation for the selected location.
Rain Viewer uses the default system maps (e.g. Google Maps for Android systems, Huawei Maps for the AppGallery version, and Apple Maps for the iOS App Store version). Unfortunately, you cannot use maps other than the default ones in our app.
The search engine may not detect some locations. If this happens, please add the location manually. To do so, long tap the required place on the map. This action will redirect you to the option to save your favourite location.
The delay may be caused by the lengthy processing period and/or the delivery of data from certain radars to our server. Weather radars are not our property, so we cannot influence the quality of their operation. You can find the exact time of recent radar images in Single Radar mode.
The radar in your region may be extremely sensitive. Please try selecting a different precipitation intensity to be notified about in the app settings.
