Local Weather Context

Chon Buri province runs along Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard, covering the resort city of Pattaya, the industrial area of Laem Chabang, and Si Racha’s coastal communities. Sea breezes interact with inland convection to produce localised storm patterns that can vary significantly between the coast and areas just 20 km inland.

Seasons

Wet season (May–October)

Onshore winds bring frequent afternoon and evening storms. Rainfall peaks in September–October, often exceeding 250 mm per month. Pattaya’s beachfront can experience sudden squalls that form over the Gulf of Thailand.

Transition months (November, April)

November marks the onset of the northeast monsoon with occasional coastal storms. April brings rising humidity and scattered pre-monsoon thunderstorms.

Dry season (December–March)

Cool northeast winds keep skies mostly clear. Pattaya and coastal areas enjoy settled weather ideal for tourism, with rainfall typically below 40 mm per month.

Who Needs Rain Radar Here

Tourists and hotel operators

Pattaya’s outdoor activities — island boats, beach events, water sports — rely on accurate short-term weather tracking. Radar helps tour operators decide whether to launch boats or reschedule excursions.

Port and logistics workers

Laem Chabang, Thailand’s busiest deep-sea port, requires radar monitoring for crane operations and container handling, which must pause during thunderstorms.

Industrial zone managers

The Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate and nearby factories monitor radar to safeguard outdoor operations and workforce safety during sudden storms.

Radar Coverage

RainViewer provides comprehensive radar coverage across Chon Buri province, stretching over the Gulf of Thailand coastline and inland to Chachoengsao. Offshore radar data helps track storms forming over the gulf before they reach Pattaya or Bang Saen.

What Our Users Say

“A little overenthusiastic at times with rain predictions, but it's accurate and spot on for radar images, and it's the one radar app I've kept and not uninstalled”

I must update my feedback once again – this is still the best brain app in the app store. The issue I was experiencing was with my phone, not this top-tier app. One feature I particularly like is the widgets.

FAQ

  • Can I track storms coming from the Gulf of Thailand?

Yes. Radar coverage extends well offshore, so you can see rain cells forming over the gulf and track their movement towards the coast.

  • How accurate is radar for Pattaya's sea breeze storms?

Very accurate. Sea breeze convergence storms are clearly visible on radar 15–30 minutes before reaching the beach, giving you time to seek shelter.

  • Does coverage include Koh Larn and nearby islands?

Radar covers the waters around Koh Larn and Koh Sichang. While island-specific detail is limited, you can see storm cells approaching the islands clearly.
